Check with your local Registrar / County Clerk, the vast majority of veterans who enroll in their turn - Download (download into a digital file that is maintained by the Ministry for such a situation).
When my father died, I went to the local military base and spoke with a link to assistance to victims. They are in most of the bases available, what they think and they are there to help things of this nature. My father had served in Vietnam and had great difficulty because their records were lost in preparation, based in St. Louis because of a fire or something in that case. Good luck I hope this helps.
